HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Kristen Dupard is the newly crowned Miss University of Southern Mississippi following a small ceremony on Monday at USM.

Family, friends and faculty members were on hand to see the New Orleans native receive her crown.
Dupard was the first runner-up in the schools title pageant and now becomes Miss USM following Hannah Roberts recent selection as Miss Mississippi.

"I thank God for the opportunity to be your Miss USM," Dupard said. "I can't wait to work with my platform this fall called ‘your vote matters, get registered’ it's about getting young people registered to vote in Hattiesburg."

Dupard is a member of the honors college and a Lucky Day scholar. She is the second bio chemistry major to win the title in 2015.
