Former USM head coach Sam Hall leads off Magnolia Amateur

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - With the introduction from Hattiesburg County Club's head golf professional David Allen, longtime former Southern Miss golf head coach Sam Hall, sent the first shot of the 4th annual Magnolia Amateur somewhere down the fairway.

"Got it airborne," Hall said after striking the ball. "I wasn't nervous; I just didn't hit it very well."

Hall is also the official starter on the first tee box for the expansive field of competitors over the three day, 54 hole, par 70 tournament.

"I tell you it's just gotten better every year. When you can get in [more than] 140 guys from all over the country and a lot of foreign countries, they're doing something right," Hall said.

The 14-year Golden Eagle veteran coach said he's more than happy to kickstart the event and hopes to continue the trend.

"I feel very, very honored that they've asked me to do it. I've done it the last four years. It's good to be thought of again," Hall said with a laugh.

The tournament concludes Sunday.
