COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - The residents at the State Veterans Home in Collins enjoyed an early Independence Day lunch Friday, courtesy of some patriotic volunteers.
Dozens of veterans ate beef brisket and other good food during a Fourth of July luncheon hosted by James Sanford and the Veterans Outreach organization.
Before the meal, the veterans joined in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
"I appreciate them, I sure do," said Billy Lee, a resident at the home. "It makes me feel great, I feel great."
"(They) do a good job, a fantastic job for us veterans here as far as things go (with) cookouts like this," said Charles Parker, another resident.
"It means a lot to us," said Charles Kroen, another veteran at the home. "You look forward to what they can do for us and it's fun."
Veterans Outreach was founded 15 years ago.
