PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Perry County Sheriff's Department along with agents of the 12th Judicial Task Force and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics raided a home off Old River Road Monday.
According to the sheriff's department, the raid took place after information was obtained as to the location of marijuana plants growing at the river camps.
Thirty seven plants, approximately four feet tall were found on the back porch and backyard of the home. Agents and deputies seized the plants and also $15,800 in cash along with two .22 caliber semi-automatic pistols.
Laron Lee Terhune, 52, was arrested and charged with manufacturing of marijuana and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
"This shows what co-operation with other agencies can do in our area," said Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith. "I have worked diligently to enhance our relationship with these agencies to better fight the narcotics in our county. These officers and deputies are doing a great job for our county and I appreciate the work they do. This makes approximately $29,000.00 dollars seized in the last two weeks in Perry County by deputies and Agents."
Terhune made his first appearance Tuesday morning in Perry County Justice Court. His bond was set at $35,000.00 on the manufacturing charge and $20,000.00 on the weapons charge.
