MDOT to begin Interstate 59 safety enhancement project in Forrest County this week

HATTIESBURG, MS -

This is a news release from MDOT   

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is scheduled to begin a safety enhancement project along Interstate 59 at the Highway 49 interchange beginning this week.

The project was awarded to the Truesdale Corporation out of Tempe, AZ for $268,268.

Beginning late Wednesday night (July 1) crews will close the loop from I-59 northbound to Hwy 49 northbound near the Hattiesburg Convention Center.  Work will is scheduled to be completed by mid-day Thursday (July 2).

After this preliminary work, the project will resume in 30 days, and crews will begin work to install a high friction surface treatment to the roadway loops. The roadway treatment is designed to enhance traction as vehicles maneuver the interchange.

    Authorities are searching for the driver who hit a man on a Jones County road Tuesday night and then left the scene. It happened on Moselle-Seminary Road around 9:15 p.m. The victim was taken to the hospital, but we don't know his condition.  He could not describe the vehicle that struck him, but he told deputies that it kept on going.
