HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Drivers who frequent the I-59 at Highway 49 interchange will need to find an alternate route when traveling this week.
MDOT announced Tuesday that they are scheduled to begin a safety enhancement project that will close the loop from I-59 northbound to Hwy 49 northbound near the Hattiesburg Convention Center.
Work is scheduled to be complete by Thursday, July 2nd.
The project was awarded to the Truesdale Corporation out of Tempe, AZ for $268,268, according to the news release.
After the preliminary work, the project will resume in 30 days, and crews will begin work to install a high friction surface treatment to the roadway loops. The roadway treatment is designed to enhance traction as vehicles maneuver the interchange.
