Sorrells named new PRCC assistant football coach

POPLARVILLE, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from Pearl River Community College.


Stephen Sorrells, a former assistant coach at Alabama-Birmingham, has been hired as the new assistant head coach of the offense at Pearl River Community College. 

Sorrells, 32, a native of Greenville, Ala., was a three-year starter as an offensive lineman at Fort Dale Academy in Greenville, Ala. He is a graduate of Auburn University-Montgomery. 

He spent several years coaching high school football in Alabama. 

He will coach the offensive line for the Wildcats. His college coaching stops include Faulkner (Ala.) University (2007-08), Occidental (Calif.) College (2010-12), Kenyon College (2012-13) and UAB. 

He was the assistant offensive line coach at UAB. 

During his one season at UAB, the Blazers finished the season with one of the biggest turn arounds in the country, becoming bowl eligible for the first time in 10 years and only the second time in school history.
