Suspect in major Jones County drug bust makes initial appearance

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A suspect in connection to a major drug bust in Jones County made his initial appearance in court Friday afternoon.

Herminio Torres'  was charged with trafficking of a controlled substance and had his bond set at $50,000.

Jones County Sheriff's Department officials seized almost 180 pounds of marijuana, valued at $200,000 Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff Alex Hodge said the drug bust was part of an ongoing investigation by his team.

"We have successfully removed these drugs out of distribution," Hodge said, "We are confident that this has put a significant dent in somebody's pocket, and we are happy that these drugs won't be getting into the hands of our citizens."
