USM's Summer Math Institute participants receive certificates of recognition

This is a news release from the University of Southern Mississippi

The 2015 edition of The University of Southern Mississippi's Summer Math Institute will hold its closing program Friday, June 26 from 1-3:30 p.m. in rooms 101-102 of the Trent Lott National Center on the Hattiesburg campus.

Twenty in-service mathematics teachers from 15 different school districts in Mississippi are participating in the four-week (June 1-26) professional development workshop, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered through the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.

The teachers are gaining valuable knowledge and resources to bring back to their schools this fall. The institute features entertaining and challenging activities that motivate teachers to design creative lessons that aim for higher achievements. Fifteen of these teachers have applied for CEUs and 11 have applied for Highly Qualified status.

Dr. Haiyan Tian, director of the Summer Math Institute, will give an introduction to the institute. Each participant will then be awarded a certificate of recognition. All of the teachers will share their institute experiences through presentations with the audience. The public is invited to attend this event.
