Seminary woman facing 17 counts of animal cruelty

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Seminary woman is facing 17 counts of animal cruelty and neglect.

Lisa Carter, 52, turned herself in to authorities at the Jones County Adult Detention Center on Wednesday.

According to the Jones County Sheriff's Department, Carter was wanted for depriving a group of horses from food and water.

On June 10, police were dispatched to the 400 block of Tower Road, where two horses were found dead and several others in bad conditions. An animal rescue team arrived to the scene and removed all the horses from the area the owner was leasing from. According to the rescue team, three others had died shortly after.

Carter's bond has been set to $2,500 cash. She must pay the entire amount before being able to bond out.
