COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) - A Tuesday night shooting in the city of Columbia has landed a Bogalusa man behind bars.
William Spangler, 51, was arrested and charged with shooting into a dwelling, possession of a controlled substance with a firearm with the intent to distribute and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Spangler was arrested at the Quality Inn on U.S. 98 in Columbia around 10 p.m. Tuesday after officers responded to a report of shots being fired.
"Officers cleared the room after the shooting and discovered 8 shots were fired, and recovered a weapon in the process," Columbia Police Chief Mike Cooper said.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the room, and further searching led officers to multiple ounces of crack cocaine, a Hi-Point pistol and around $1,300 in cash.
"This guy had a serious rap sheet that spans to about 9 states," Cooper said.
No one was injured in the shooting, and it is unclear why Spangler started shooting inside the hotel room.
Spangler is being housed at the Marion-Walthall Correctional Facility.
