LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Lamar County man is behind bars and facing aggravated domestic violence charges after a weekend incident.
Charles Jacobs, 28, was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic violence in connection to an incident that happened near Lumberton Saturday afternoon.
"He was a passenger in a car with his mother his 6 year-old child, and he apparently forced the mother to wreck the car," said Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel.
According to Rigel, the part of the crime that escalated to "aggravated" was the fact that Jacobs allegedly used the car as a weapon in the crime.
"He wrecked the vehicle, and took off running, and after a chase by deputies, he was taken into custody," said Rigel.
Neither of the two other individuals in the car received serious injuries.
Jacobs' bond was set at $12,500 and a hold was placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
