The United States Department of Agriculture/Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Neshoba County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Leake County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a Small Ruminant Boot Camp.
The Boot Camp will be held on July 18, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at the Neshoba County Coliseum, 12000 Hwy 15 North, Philadelphia, Mississippi 39350. The Boot Camp is part of the NRCS Small Ruminant Farm Initiative and is geared to inform and educate small and new farmers on goat production and management.
Subject matter experts from Mississippi State University and Alcorn State University will speak on topics such as meat goat management, forage production/management, marketing, herd health and best management practices, and start-up of a small farm operation. There will also be USDA/NRCS representatives to inform participants of the fencing and water facilities programs.
Participants should register with the Neshoba County Soil and Water Conservation District at 601-656-8783 EXT 3 or the Leake County Soil and Water Conservation District at 601- 298-9101 EXT 3 no later than July 6. Registration will determine the proper amount of meals to prepare.
