HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Nearly two-dozen missionary builders from several churches out of Alabama are in the Pine Belt this week, helping to rebuild the sanctuary of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, near Ellisville.

The church, which was built in 1900, was heavily damaged during hurricane Katrina nearly ten-years ago.

The damage was so severe that it made worshipping in the church a hazard. Dennis Dickey, one of the team leaders, said the group is only doing what they feel led to do.

“The bible says that we're supposed to go out and be missionaries and to spread the Gospel around the world,” said Dickey. “Some people go around the world and in our case, we go to Mississippi.”

Ira Terrell, Pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, said that God has blessed them by sending the missionaries their way.

“It makes our hearts feel overjoyed and our prayer in this house is that God would bless us abundantly and increase our territory and keep us from all evil and we see that happening,” Terrell said.

While the labor is free, the church's responsibility was supplying the building materials needed. If you would like more information about helping Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, you can contact Pastor Terrell at: 601-580-3572 or 601-428-0616.
