JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Area fire departments responded to a crude oil storage tank fire in the Gwinville Production Field around 5:30 p.m. Monday.
According to Collins Fire Department officials, the fire was caused by lightning striking the 19,000 gallon tank.
Collins Fire Department's Special Industrial Fire unit assisted the Prentiss and Clem Fire Departments to extinguish the fire within minutes.
Collins Fire Chief John Pope said one tank was on fire when his department arrived at the scene, and together the departments were able to keep another tank from igniting.
No injuries were reported, and no evacuations were required.
