PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A pipe line burst on McKenzie Road around 8:30 a.m. in Perry County, according to Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith.
South Cross Pipeline Company, Forrest County EMA and Forrest County deputies responded to the call.
The pipeline did leak gas for a short period of time before it was shutdown at a valve in the Sunrise Community.
Crews have been on the scene repairing the approximate 2 foot rupture. Perry County Emergency Management Director Dale Carnahan said he expects the repairs to be complete by this evening. The rupture did not affect any residents of the community.
The Leaf River Cellulose operations have been impacted as a result of the gas pipeline break. Officials were able to manage the impact safely and no employees or the surrounding community were affected. All operations will be back to normal soon.
