PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - IRS tax phone scams are claiming more victims, this time in Perry County.
Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith said they've been receiving many calls about the scam. He said so far one elderly resident has been taken advantage by phony IRS agents.
"Tell the person on the other end of the line to call the sheriff's department and we'll deal with them," said Sheriff Smith. "Do not send any money to anybody identifying themselves over the phone as the IRS agency. Do not give them your social security number or your checking account number."
According to the IRS, it will always make first contact with you by letter and will not ask for your account information through phone.
