Two out of the three Southern Miss players selected in the 2015 MLB draft were on hand at Pete Taylor Park Thursday afternoon.
The Detroit Tigers nabbed senior reliever Ryan Milton in the 23rd round with the Colorado Rockies taking senior righty James McMahon in the 24th.
Both pitchers worked out at the Golden Eagles facility and spoke about experiencing the final day of the draft process.
"You don't hear anything, it's kind of a weird feeling. You're just kind of sitting around waiting for a call," McMahon said. "I had a call around 12 p.m. from the [Philadelphia] Phillies. They called back again around 1 p.m. and they said 'Alright we're about to take you.' [I] hung up the phone with the Phillies and the Rockies drafted me 30 seconds later."
Albany, La., native Ryan Milton had a different feeling when the final names were called.
"They told me be ready on the third day. I honestly didn't know when I was going to go. I mean getting that phone call was just exciting. I was actually eating from the Chinese place and got the phone call and I was totally shocked."
Junior pitcher Cody Carroll was taken in the 22nd round by the New York Yankees.
