PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Residents in the Friendly City just got a new way of staying healthy.
Petal broke ground on a new walking track located at the Robert E. Russell Sportsplex on Hillcrest Loop.
The new track was approved by the Forrest County Board of Supervisors and the funding is made possible from the Recreation budget of District 3 Supervisor, Burkett Ross.
The labor and equipment to build the new track will be provided for by the county. Petal Parks and Recreation's Program Director, Katherine Minyard, says that this has been over a year in the making.
"We're just very excited about this track coming to the city of Petal, trying to make Petal a very healthy city for everybody to live in,"
said Minyard. "We just want to thank the Forrest County Board of Supervisors and the city of Petal's Mayor and Board of Alderman to make this all possible for the city of Petal."
The new walking track should be completed in about three weeks, weather permitting.
