JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Sheriff Alex Hodge became the first sheriff of Jones County to be selected to serve as president of the Mississippi's Sheriffs' Association Thursday.

Jones County Chancery Judge Frank McKenzie conducted the swearing-in ceremony that took place at the annual summer convention of the MSA.

Hodge has served as the vice president and the chairman of the Bylaws Committee. Hodge said he intends to broaden communication as well as strengthen the voice of law enforcement throughout Mississippi.

According to the Jones County Sheriff Department, the non-profit association includes sheriffs from 82 counties across Mississippi. The MSA's mission is to represent and support members through professional development, provide support of legislation that assists law enforcement and hold meetings to encourage cooperation and open communication.
