Ellisville Library acknowledges hometown heroes in summer reading program

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Every hero has a story. This was the theme at the Ellisville Library's summer reading program that began Tuesday.

Children and adults from Jones County were treated to lunch and had an opportunity to meet members of the Ellisville police and the fire department.

Officers and fireman talked about their roles in the community and it was also a way for attendees to thank the officers and firemen for protecting their neighborhoods.

"With everything that's going on right now, we just really want our police department to stand behind them and let these kids know how important they are to us, every day," said Michelle Miller, head of public relations for Jones County Library System.

Miller said on the first day of the summer reading program, the library had over 500 participants.

On June 11, the Animal Avengers from Florida will bring exotic animals to the Ellisville Library.
