Fire heavily damages home in West Jones County

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A fire heavily damaged a home in the Indian Springs community of Jones County, Monday morning.

At 9:25 a.m., fire units from the Calhoun, Hebron, and Soso Volunteer Fire Departments, along with the City of Laurel Fire Department were dispatched to 3624 Indian Springs Road to the home of Charles and Teresa Dinwiddie.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke bellowing out of the eaves all around the home. An aggressive interior attack was made by the first arriving units from the Laurel Fire Department followed by assistants from firefighters from Jones County Fire District 1 as they arrived.

A Jones County Beat 2 employee, who was working nearby, noticed the home on fire and called 911 and the homeowners. No one was home at the time of the fire.

The home sustained a significant amount of smoke and fire damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Jones County Sheriff's Department Fire Investigator Sgt. Scott Gable.

Also responding to the fire was Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna.
