HPS kick offs its summer lunch program

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg Public Schools began its summer lunch program today.

Kids from the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and neighboring communities joined at N.R Burger Middle School for lunch. The Hattiesburg Public School District will be feeding kids up to 18 years of age free of charge throughout the summer months.

The HPSD will serve breakfast at 7:45 a.m. – 9 a.m. and lunch from 11:00 a.m. - 1 p.m.June 1-July 17, Monday through Friday.

The locations will be at Grace Christian Elementary School, N.R. Burger Middle School, and Hattiesburg High School.

"It's good for some kids to be able to come here and get food for free, it's a struggle for some kids to eat at home," said Tyler Washington, a YMCA camp counselor.
