LOS ANGELES (AP) - Mike Shawaryn gave up one run in 5 1-3 innings and combined with three relievers on a two-hitter in Maryland's 3-1 victory over Mississippi on Friday in their NCAA regional opener.
Shawaryn (13-2) struck out nine and gave up two hits while walking five. He's tied with the College of Charleston's Taylor Clarke for the most victories in NCAA Division I.
Kevin Mooney had three strikeouts in the ninth for the save.
Shortstop Kevin Smith had two hits and an RBI for Maryland (40-21), which tied a school record for victories in a season.
Smith, Brandon Lowe and Kevin Martir had RBI doubles with one out in the first inning off Christian Trent (7-7). Smith drove in a run with a bunt single in the fourth.
Ole Miss (30-26) scored without a hit in the sixth when Sikes Orvis, Errol Robinson and Austin Knight drew one-out walks off Shawaryn, knocking him out of the game. J.B Woodman drew a walk off reliever Robert Galligan to force in a run, but Galligan got the final two outs to leave the bases loaded.
The Rebels' only hits were two singles in the first inning.
On Saturday, Maryland will face the UCLA-Cal State Bakersfield winner, and Mississippi will play the loser in an elimination game.
