JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County man appeared in Jones County Justice Court Thursday on a rape charge when he was found with a teen authorities thought was missing. Faron Young, 35 of Laurel, was charged with one count of statutory rape, one count of kidnapping and one count of tampering with evidence. His bond was set at $100,000.
The incident occurred on Tuesday around 8 p.m. when the mother of a 14-year-old girl contacted the Jones County Sheriff Department. According to authorities, the mother and her daughter got in a argument earlier in the evening and the girl stormed off and did not return home. Shortly after, a search began in the Sandersville area by deputies and investigators.
About three hours later, the juvenile contacted a family member to pick her up. During the investigation, authorities said the juvenile contacted Young after the argument with her mother. Young picked up the 14 year old, without the permission or knowledge of the juvenile's mother, brought her to a secluded area and a sexual encounter occurred. Young was well known by the juvenile's family and was in touch with the 14 year old's mother and made no indication the juvenile was with him.
