LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The Laurel Police Department will hold a prescription drug take-back event on Saturday to help city residents rid their medicine chests of expired, unused or unwanted medications.
The event will be held inside the Law Enforcement Complex from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m May 30. The free and anonymous take-back service is a joint initiative by the Laurel Police Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
Studies show that most abused prescription drugs are obtained from family or friends.
Flushing medications down the toilet or throwing them in the trash poses potential safety and health hazards, which is why Laurel Police hope people will dispose of them properly through their official take-back event.
