PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Over a dozen law enforcement agencies were in Petal on Monday and Tuesday to participate in a special training seminar called, "Color of Law and Culture of Diversity."
The event was put on by the FBI out of Jackson, Mississippi. Its goal was to teach and educate officers on how to properly understand and assess whether they are implementing practices that promote civil integrity.
The program helps law enforcement recognize and respect the value and dignity of every citizen.
Petal Police Chief, Leonard Fuller said that he felt the conference would be a benefit to his officers as well as officers of other agencies, and that's why he invited them to participate in the event.
"The class was put on at the chief's conference last year in Biloxi and I felt it was important to bring it to our officers and we invited several surrounding agencies to come and take part of it," Fuller said."In today's society, it's important that we understand all levels of society and different cultures and it's important that we learn all the differences."
The class was held at the Petal Civic Center and had over 140 participants.
