Southern Miss student awarded Comcast Scholarship

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - This is a news release from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Johnathan Reed, a senior recreation administration major at The University of Southern Mississippi, was selected as the recipient of the Southern Miss Comcast Golf Classic Scholarship.  Reed, a native of Memphis, Tenn., was awarded the $500 scholarship for his essay on "What Southern Miss Means to Me." In addition to his studies, he works at Southern Miss Recreational Sports.  "Jonathan is the real deal - a very nice student, extremely respectful, and a very hard worker," said Dr. Rick Green, professor of recreation. "He is working toward a career in recreational sports, and I am convinced that he will be very successful."  Reed has been in the military for seven years and is currently a sergeant in the Mississippi Army National Guard.  "I chose to study recreation administration because it is a field I enjoy," said Reed. "I have the opportunity to provide programs and services to the community, giving them a chance to increase their wellness." After graduating from Southern Miss, Reed plans to attend graduate school for a graduate assistantship in recreation and sports while continuing to study recreation.  For more about the Recreation Program at The University of Southern Mississippi, visitusm.edu/kinesiology/bs-recreation.
