FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Forrest County man is behind bars and facing aggravated assault domestic violence charges after an alleged fight with his girlfriend.

Patrick Tidwell, 43, was charged with aggravated assault-domestic violence after Forrest County Deputies responded to the 100 block of Archie Smith Road for a domestic disturbance call.

According to investigators, Tidwell allegedly punched his girlfriend, Julie Turner, with a closed fist in her face as well as choked her with his forearm. Turner was able to escape, but claimed that Tidwell came after her with a can of "carb cleaner" and attempted to set her on fire.

Tidwell claimed Turner attempted to set him on fire, and the injuries she received were a sign of defense on his part.

Tidwell and Turner were both taken into custody by deputies at the scene.

Tidwell's bond was set at $20,000, and Turner was charged with simple assault-domestic violence in the matter.
