HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A 5th grade student at Sacred Heart Catholic School has won top honors in a nationwide competition for cursive handwriting.

Mallory Gilbertson was named the Grand National Champion in her grade in the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest.

She won a trophy and $1,000.

"I don't really practice," said Mallory.  "I guess it just came naturally," she said.

The school also received $1,000 in merchandise, and her teacher won an all-expense-paid trip to an international literacy conference in St. Louis, Missouri.
