Laurel Police Department warns residents of water service scam

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The Laurel Police Department would like to warm the public of a scam currently being attempted in our area.

An unknown called identifies himself as an employee of the City of Laurel Water Department and states that the business/residential bill payment is late.

The caller goes on to state that the water service will be cut off in two hours unless the amount given is paid. The caller attempts to get a debit or credit card number over the phone for the payment.

The City of Laurel Water Department does not attempt to get payment in this manner. Payments are accepted over the internet, mail, drop-box or in person from 8:00 until 4:00 Monday through Friday.
