HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hub City residents are coming together to mourn the loss of the two Hattiesburg police officers that lost their lives in a shooting incident Saturday.

People have begun leaving flowers, balloons and cards near the crime scene for officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate.

Vince Hatten, of Purvis, was one of the first to approach the scene Sunday morning.

Hatten said, "My grandfather was a Fire Chief for the Hattiesburg Fire Department, and anytime something happens in Hattiesburg, it really hits close to home and it tears my heart up."

"I've noticed that a lot of people have come together in the City of Hattiesburg, and I think that Hattiesburg can lead by example when responding to situations by this," Hatten said.

A few miles away from the crime scene a strong message is displayed that simply reads "Stop the Violence."
