HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hundreds of Southern Miss graduates are preparing to move into the work force or are planning on continuing their education after receiving their degrees on the Hattiesburg campus Friday.
USM hosted two Spring Commencement ceremonies at Reed Green Coliseum in the Hub City.
Retiring Southern Miss Vice-Pres. for Student Affairs, Dr. Joe Paul, was commencement speaker for both events.
"I actually cried last night, thinking about all the memories I made and I'm really going to miss this place and the friendships," said graduate Shonice Musgrove, a business administration and entrepreneurship major who was also Miss Southern Miss.
"I went to Junior College first, but I love USM, it was definitely a completely different experience." said Ricky Chambliss, Jr., another graduate who was a business management major.
"It was great, it was a great experience," said Hannah Roberts, a graduate who also served as Miss USM. "I'm ready to move on to new things, but Hattiesburg has been wonderful," she said.
Roberts will be starting medical school in the fall.
"It's been a long four years," said Harold Clark, another graduate who majored in sports management. "(But the experience was) phenomenal, very awesome," he said.
USM will also host a commencement ceremony at the Gulf Park campus Saturday morning.
