HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Independent films from movie-makers all over world will be part of a new event at an annual, multi-arts festival next month in Hattiesburg.
FestivalSouth's Film Expo will screen eight competition features, 16 shorts and two spotlight films at Hattiesburg's Grand Theater from June 1-4.
Films from Mississippi, Louisiana, Georgia, Canada and Great Britain are included.
Festival South, which is the state's only multi-week, multi-genre arts festival, will take place at various venues across the Hub City June 6-20.
"We'll also be giving out awards for best actor and actress, we'll be giving out audience awards, an award for cinematography, and those will be announced, along with the jury awards for best feature and best short at the Best of the Pine Belt Awards at the Saenger Theater on June 5th," said Miles Doleac, executive director of the FestivalSouth Film Expo.
"Moving into cinematic arts is not a stretch at all," said Mike Lopinto, artistic director for FestivalSouth. "To have that open the festival and be a kick-off is a great time of excitement and we're getting lots of statewide buzz, people coming from all over to see this and that's exciting," he said.
