Letter Carriers prepare for "Stamp out Hunger" food drive

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Saturday May 9th, the public is asked to donate non-perishable food that will be donated to local food banks. Local postal workers will pick up  canned goods from your mailbox for the annual "Stamp out Hunger" food drive.

The National Association of Letter Carriers has held the food drive for 24 years.

"We will pick it up and give it to the local food banks," said Jerry Madden, Letter Carrier. "100% of the food will stay right here in the local area, to help your neighbor, and fellow citizens of the community. The food banks are really depending upon us this year. They've already been in contact with us saying that they really look forward to seeing the food."

Local food shelters such as The Salvation Army, Christian Services, and the Edwards Street Fellowship Center will benefit from the donations.
