LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Governor Phil Bryant is endorsing a candidate for the Jones County Sheriff position.
On Monday, Governor Bryant endorsed Sheriff Alex Hodge, who is running for re-election and has one opponent.
"I'm a former deputy sheriff myself and so I particularly am fond of sheriffs and this one in Jones County," said Gov. Bryant. "We're just good friends, I've worked with him as we've had the tornadoes that came through Jones County, I've seen the character of the man and I believe it would just be a very good thing for him to continue to serve as sheriff in Jones County and any way I can help do that I certainly am."
Gov. Bryant attended a ceremony for Sheriff Hodge at Sanderson Farms in Laurel where he made his endorsement. Several other state and county elected officials were also in attendance and showing their support for the sheriff candidate.
"I'm honored to be able to be serving as the sheriff of Jones County, I look forward to serving this county for many years to come," said Sheriff Hodge. "People like the governor and each and every person here just want to be a part; they recognize what we're doing. We're a professional organization, we're here for the people and we're going to continue to do the job and we appreciate this."
