HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss junior right-handed pitcher Cody Carroll has been named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete-game shutout in the Golden Eagles 6-0 series-opening victory over Marshall last Friday in an announcement by the league office Monday in Irving, Texas.
The Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native registered his first career complete game by shutting out the Thundering Herd 6-0 in the series opener. It was the ninth quality start of the season for Carroll with six or more innings and three or fewer earned runs.
Carroll struck out eight and allowed just three hits and three walks. He only allowed one runner reach third base and three others to reach second base in the contest. Carroll had four batted balls hit back to him in which he fielded each one successfully.
This was the first weekly award for Carroll during his career and he is the third different Golden Eagle pitcher to win this award this season. It is the fourth time overall that the Golden Eagle pitching staff has garnered this honor in 2015.
The C-USA Hitter of the Week honor went to Middle Tennessee junior 3B Jake Ingold, who reached base 14 times last week with five RBI and five runs scored.
The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend as they finish the home portion of their regular-season schedule with a three-game C-USA series with Charlotte, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
