HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A former district attorney qualified this week for the new circuit court judge's seat added to the 12th Judicial District.
Jon Mark Weathers, who currently serves as the attorney for the University of Southern Mississippi, is the first candidate to qualify for the November election.
Weathers was the DA for the 12th Judicial District, which covers Forrest and Perry counties from 1976-1980 and then again from 2003-2010, before he took the role at USM in 2011.
According to the USM website, Weathers is a 1970 graduate of the university and a lifelong Hattiesburg resident.
The qualification period for the second seat in the 12th Judicial District ends June 1.
