LONG BEACH, MS (WDAM) -

The following is a news release from The University of Southern Mississippi

University of Southern Mississippi student Bethany Cuevas of Long Beach won the title of Miss Magnolia earlier this spring in Corinth, Miss. With her title, Cuevas, an elementary education major at the university's Gulf Park campus, will have the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss Mississippi this summer in Vicksburg.

As a Southern Miss student, Cuevas serves as a member of the Southern Connection Leadership Team. As a student leader, she displays Southern Miss pride while assisting fellow students and participating in university and community events. Cuevas' platform, “Volunteerism: Every Hour Counts,” is a program that reflects her passion for helping others.

In addition to helping others, Cuevas says the four points of the crown – service, scholarship, success, and style – are very important to her. By competing in pageants, Cuevas says she has won scholarships to help pay for her college education. The Miss Mississippi pageant will be held July 4 – 6 in Vicksburg.
