HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The public is invited to Hattiesburg's African-American Military History Museum Saturday to help commemorate the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Southern Miss' Center for Black Studies will host a community dialogue and panel discussion on the subject beginning at 9 a.m.
It will be followed by a voter registration drive in Mobile/Bouie neighborhood in Hattiesburg. It will be conducted by the Black Studies Student Alliance.
The Voting Rights Act, signed by President Lyndon Johnson, prohibited racial discrimination in voting.
The panel discussion will feature civil rights activists and scholars.
