HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - State Representative Toby Barker (R- District 102) officially kicked off his campaign for re-election to the Mississippi House of Representatives Monday night in downtown Hattiesburg.
"We champion a pro-Hattiesburg agenda, one that looks after our educational and healthcare community," Barker said.
Barker was first elected to the House in 2007, and he said his greatest legislative accomplishment since then was pushing for early childhood education in Mississippi.
"Going back, I would invest in our human capital and invest in strategic ways," he said of his bid for re-election, which begins with an August Republican primary.
Barker's legislative colleague Rep. Scott DeLano (R- Dist. 117) of Biloxi said Toby can be counted on for thorough research of topics before presenting them to legislative committees.
"If you want a yes-man," Barker said to the crowd Monday night, "I'm not going to be that."
