Two Pine Belt educators named best in Mississippi

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Two Lamar County educators have been named the best in the state.

Oak Grove Middle School Head Principal Patrick Gray, Ph. D. has been named the administrator of the year for the state.

Oak Grove Lower Elementary Teacher Anna Morris has been named teacher of the year for the state.

Both shared their secrets for getting the state title with seven on your side.

“I think the secret to success is always keeping students at the forefront of my mind when making any decisions,” said Gray. “I always ask myself how this will affect my students as the result of the decisions that i make and if it's in the best interest of the students, then I know it's a good decision.”

“The best teachers can go to other teachers and say ‘wow you do that really well and I want to learn to do that like you,' said Morris. “Once you do that now you know how to do something really well and you can share that with someone else. The secret to any type of success that I have had has been others.”

Both winners said it was a great honor to receive the awards from the Mississippi Department of Education.
