Hub City council approves city attorney nominee

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg City Council unanimously approved the mayor's nominee for city attorney at Tuesday's council   private practice attorney Annie Amos was approved by the council to replace Charles Lawrence upon his June 31 retirement.

The council's approval of Amos comes after two unsuccessful nominations were presented to them by Mayor Johnny DuPree.

The council is waiting on DuPree's two remaining nominations for city department heads, which include city clerk and chief of police.

The mayor will meet the council in court May 7 to continue hearings regarding what council president Kim Bradley and Ward 3 Councilman Carter Carroll consider his failure to comply with state law by bringing forward qualified nominees in a timely manner.

DuPree has presented nominees for all 17 department head positions.
