FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A weekend camp in Forrest County which gives cancer patients and survivors some much-needed rest and relaxation got underway Friday.
Camp Bluebird at Paul B. Johnson State Park is celebrating its 26th anniversary. It features recreational activities, social events and devotional and educational opportunities for campers, staff and volunteers.
More than 50 campers are attending.
Among the activities on the first day was a presentation by officers from the Jones County Sheriff's Dept. They spoke about drug safety and crime prevention.
"We have games and good times and everything that just fills us up and helps us to have the hope that we already have," said Sherial Robertson, a camper from Hattiesburg.
"Being around other survivors has truly helped me to know there is strength with your friends and with God," said Faye Jackson, another camper from Laurel.
The camp runs through Sunday.
