Southern Miss baseball hasn't been able to take the field for their last two games because of rain, but the program hopes that isn't the case this weekend against No. 15 Florida Atlantic.
The athletic department announced Thursday that the Golden Eagles and Owls will play a doubleheader at Pete Taylor Park starting Friday at 4 p.m. with Saturday's contest set to begin at the same time.
FAU comes into Hattiesburg with the best record in Conference USA (29-8, 11-4 in C-USA) and leads the conference in most offensive categories (.310 batting average, 286 runs scored).
"I love it. I mean that's what you come out here for everyday," junior pitcher Cody Carroll said. "You come out here to play the best and they're one of the best teams in the country, I'll say it. They're not really overpowering, but they play really well together as a team."
USM (20-12-1, 8-6 in C-USA) counters with the best ERA (2.58) in the conference and the second best fielding percentage (.974).
"We handled them pretty well last year. Obviously, being from that area I know a lot of those guys and they have a lot of the same returning guys from last year," junior infield Tim Lynch said. "The difference this year and last year in them is really they just won the games they're supposed to win.
"They've taken care of business in Conference USA play, but this weekend we have a really good chance to make some hay."
Tickets for Friday's game are good for both games of the doubleheader.
