HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Pine Belt residents are keeping a little extra change this week when filling up. The average cost of a gallon of gas in Mississippi is slowly decreasing.

AAA's Fuel Gauge Report lists the current average for a gallon of gas on April 13 in Mississippi as $2.17.

Although this is $0.03 higher than last week's average for a gallon of regular gas, it is $0.06 lower than the $2.23 average of Mississippi prices from March, according to AAA.

According to the report, Mississippi's fuel is being sold much lower than averages across the country. The average cost for a gallon of regular gas in the United States is $2.38, a $0.21 increase from Pine Belt prices.

However, nationally prices have remained the same from last week, even though they continue to fall from March's cost of $2.44.
