BROOKLYN, MS (WDAM) - The Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Dept. has some new, life-saving emergency equipment, thanks to the Forrest County Board of Supervisors.
It's a set of rescue airbags that can be quickly inflated to lift a vehicle or heavy equipment off of someone.
The cost of the equipment was about $4,000. Brooklyn Fire Chief David Smith says this will benefit the whole south end of Forrest County.
"(The bags) are so thin we can slip them into small spots and just lift it right up off the patient," said Smith. "They tell us that we have a 'golden hour' to get someone to the hospital and if we can take something like this and lift a dashboard where we don't have to cut it out, it gives them a better chance of survival," he said.
