HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center is getting a new leader this weekend.
In a ceremony to take place Saturday morning, Col. Gregory Scott Michel of McComb will take command of the National Guard facility. He'll replace Col. William B. "Brad" Smith, Jr., who has led the post for the last three years.
Also Saturday, the Mississippi National Guard will dedicate a new $42 million barracks facility.
The Operational Readiness Training Complex (ORTC) includes four, four-story buildings, each named in honor of a Mississippi National Guard soldier who was killed in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
The complex has a total of 1,344 beds.
