HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Noted author, illustrator and Southern Miss Medallion winner Paul O. Zelinsky was a featured speaker on the second day of the 48th annual Fay B. Kaigler Children's Book Festival at USM.
That event has attracted nearly 500 authors, illustrators, teachers and librarians from across the country.
"Being able to talk to all the librarians and the teachers who are here, that's very special to me," said Zelinsky. "It's a wonderful thing just to know how important a part they are of the children's book world, because they are the people who keep good children's books alive," he said.
Activities Wednesday also included the recognition of accomplished new authors and illustrators at the Ezra Jack Keats Awards Luncheon.
And it featured an autograph session at the campus Barnes and Noble with Zelinsky and other award winners. Several individual breakout sessions focusing on topics such as social media and picture books also took place.
The festival wraps up Friday.
