HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Southern Miss is offering a new graduate program in the College of Business which will be the first of its kind in the nation. It will prepare students for careers in middle to upper management in the sports safety and security industry.

It's a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Sports Security Management.

The program is a partnership between the university's College of Business and the National Center for Sports Safety and Security (NCS4).

"Many have an MBA perhaps with sports management, but the emphasis on security and the tie-in with industry and the plans for internships, I believe this is a first," said Dr. Faye Gilbert, dean of the College of Business.

"(Graduates will) be able to go out for entry level positions, director of operations and events and security at the major venues in the United States, professional sports, collegiate," said Lou Marciani, director of NCS4.

Classes will begin in the fall in Scianna Hall.

Administrators expect the program to initially attract about 10 students.
